Associated Exam
The candidate appearing for CCIP Service Provider certification has to complete both CCIE SP written (350-029) and CCIE SP Lab exam in order to attain this certification. Both are CCIE SP v3 exams. Both CCIE Service Provider Written and Lab exams have recently been changed from v3.0 to v4.0 to cope with the different job roles in today’s market. The last v3.0 exams will be held on May 21, 2015. The CCIE SP Lab exam must be taken within 18 months of attempting the written exam. Candidates must retake the CCIP SP written exam if the CCIP SP lab exam is not passed within three years.
Prerequisites
The CCIE Service Provider certification has no prerequisites. However, three to five years of work-related experience will be an advantage. The candidates are required to pass both CCIE SP written exam and CCIE SP lab exam to attain this certification. In order to pass the CCIE SP Written exam, the candidates must have sufficient knowledge to implement, optimize and troubleshoot Service Provider technologies and characteristics like IGP Routing, SONET, Multicast, etc.
Examination Overview

The topics covered in the exam are job role oriented. Various emerging technologies are covered like IPv6, Traffic Engineering, SP Security, QoS, etc.
In the CCIP SP lab exam the candidate will require to configure various networks according to given specifications and perform troubleshooting. It covers topics like BGP, ISIS, QoS, multicast, VPN, etc. under IOS and IOS XR operating systems environment.
Validity of certification
CCIE Service Provider certification is valid for two years. Recertification must be done after every two years.
